Time Out recently crowned Indonesia’s Komodo National Park as the world’s most beautiful place, but it’s worth noting that the competition was fierce, with stunning locations from around the globe vying for that top honor. From the enchanting landscapes of South America to breathtaking sites across Europe, the diversity of natural beauty is truly remarkable.

Securing the eighth spot on this prestigious list is Choquequirao, an ancient Incan citadel that rises majestically above Peru’s Apurímac River. Often referred to as the “sister city” of the famed Machu Picchu, Choquequirao attracts far fewer visitors, making it a hidden gem amongst Peru’s wonders. The name itself translates from Quechua to “cradle of gold,” a nod to its historical significance. Although the treasure is long gone, visitors can still immerse themselves in the site’s rich history, wandering amongst ceremonial halls, intricately designed farming terraces, and chambers that once housed mummies, all while spotting unique llama artwork etched into the stone.

In fourteenth place, we have the breathtaking Altiplano, a vast plateau nestled in the Bolivian Andes. Travel contributor SJ Armstrong vividly shares, “I spent four days trekking alongside flocks of low-flying flamingos, marveling at the Altiplano’s highlights. There’s Laguna Verde, a mesmerizing lagoon with shades of periwinkle, set against the backdrop of a nearly perfect conical mountain. Then there’s the otherworldly pink water of Laguna Colorada, which dances in hues of purple under the changing sunlight. But the true spectacle is Salar de Uyuni—the largest salt flat in the world. When it floods in winter, it transforms into a sprawling mirror replicating the vast sky above. It’s like stepping into a dream.” Those words resonate, don’t they? It feels like you’re exploring that stunning landscape right alongside her.

The third proud representative from this vibrant continent is Argentina’s Perito Moreno Glacier, which claims the thirty-eighth position on the list. Situated within Los Glaciares National Park, this colossal glacier is surrounded by towering mountains that loom in ominous splendor. Eleanor Hughes, another insightful contributor for Time Out Travel, describes it perfectly: “Witnessing the glacier is a sight to behold, but it’s the sounds that truly captivate you. Picture this: the crackling and rumbling echoes through the valley—especially magical when ice calves off the glacier, sending towering waves across the surface of the lake.” Can you imagine standing there, feel the cool air, and hearing that natural symphony?

As we admire these stunning locations, it’s essential to stay informed about travel regulations and happenings that may impact your adventures. For instance, Bali has recently announced new guidelines for tourists, highlighting the importance of responsible tourism in preserving its beauty and resources.
